14 April, 2021: By Ajoy Maitra

Gadgets and Technologies continue to evolve in providing support to our daily lives. There are several new products that adds more worth to our daily gadgets or devices used. Samsung has at its latest announced their SmartTag+ on April 08, 2021, which would be available from April 16, 2021.

A similar version of previous SmartTag by Samsung was released back in January, 2021 with features of tracking tagged devices with your smartphone. Apart from that, it also featured IoT device control through the press of the button on the Tag, however, compatible IoT devices need to be registered within the SmartThings app, to function. With a bluetooth range of 120m without obstacles, SmartTag was the perfect device for finding important things which you may often register lost.

New Things to Samsung SmartTag+

Unlike Bluetooth pairing of SmartTag, the latest announcement of SmartTag+ would feature Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology which would render precise device tracking with real time feed understanding both motion and relative positions. Using larger channel bandwidth of 500MHz with short pulses of 2 nanoseconds each, UWB achieves greater accuracy in tracking. However there are some limitations as the SmartTag+ would be compatible only with Samsung Galaxy phones with UWB technology.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra was the first Android phone with the latest UWB technology enabling better tracking and touchless payments. Other phones with UWB technology are: Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S20 & Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Easily find your misplaced items

Samsung had released the SmartThings Find Application on October, 2020, which helps users to quickly and easily locate Galaxy devices. As noted earlier by the Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Jaeyeon Jung,

Utilizing the latest in BLE and UWB technology, SmartThings Find will make your life less stressful when it comes to searching for misplaced Galaxy devices. With the added advantage of using AR in conjunction with maps and sounds to guide you back to your devices, SmartThings Find is a simple and visual solution that will help you easily locate your favorite devices. This is just one example of the new meaningful mobile experiences that UWB technology will bring to people across the world.

Galaxy SmartTag+, the newest release of the previous SmartTag ensures safety of important things by attaching the device on the item thereby enabling efficient tracking. More power efficient BLE technology ensures less energy usage by keeping lower data transfer and extended battery life for the small devices.

Locate your belongings visually with new AR Finder technology

Augmented Reality is an advanced feature added into the latest announcement version of SmartTag+ where you can easily locate your belongings more efficiently by visualizing the exact location of the lost item. Compatible handsets with UWB technology would enhance the AR Finder in guiding with easy-to-follow interface. As stated by the EVP and Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, KJ Kim,

UWB is a true game changer, making it possible to lock onto the position of an object with much greater precision. That's why we're continuing to expand UWB throughout the Galaxy ecosystem, finding new ways to leverage this technology to help make people's everyday lives easier and more convenient.

Pinpoint your tag's location, even when it's far away

The powerful detection capacity of the SmartTag+ smartens the detection of items tagged far away from your actual location. The Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology used enables such detection capability which is even more power efficient as the power usage is reduced for small devices having a comparatively lower battery capacity. Along with the 'SmartThings Find' application, launched on October, 2020.

Users opted for the SmartThings Find application, if register their lost device, then any other user located near that lost device would send an encrypted signal to the owner, thereby ensure better detection of things. In a quote by the Vice President and Head of SmartThings Team, Jaeyeon Jung,

We are excited to also be working closely with leading companies in the item-finding space to both expand this experience and enable you to find more of the belongings you care about most.

Remotely control your smart devices with the click of a button

Apart from these, the SmartTag+ is efficient enough to enable IoT through the SmartThings application. Optimize your home device settings for a smart lifestyle tailored to your needs and simplifying needs with just a touch on your mobile device.
